1.2: Types of Data collected

Among the types of Personal Data that WNewsNetwork collects, by itself or through third parties, there are: first name; last name; email address; Cookies; Usage Data; username; date of birth; address; country; state; province; phone number; company name; gender; password; city; picture; ZIP/Postal code; various types of Data; User ID; marital status; website; prefix ; language; profile picture; Twitter handle; geographic position; unique device identifiers for advertising (Google Advertiser ID or IDFA, for example); Contacts permission; Camera permission; Approximate location permission (continuous); Approximate location permission (non-continuous); Microphone permission; Social media accounts permission; app information; device logs; device information; payment info; billing address; Data communicated while using the service; Data communicated in order to use the Service; session duration; scroll-to-page interactions; clicks; time zone; mouse movements; interaction events; diagnostic events; page events; custom events; layout details; positional information; operating systems.

Personal Data may be freely provided by the User, or, in case of Usage Data, collected automatically when using WNewsNetwork.

Unless specified otherwise, all Data requested by WNewsNetwork is mandatory and failure to provide this Data may make it impossible for WNewsNetwork to provide its services. In cases where WNewsNetwork specifically states that some Data is not mandatory, Users are free not to communicate this Data without consequences to the availability or the functioning of the Service.

Users who are uncertain about which Personal Data is mandatory are welcome to contact the Owner.

Any use of Cookies – or of other tracking tools – by WNewsNetwork or by the owners of third-party services used by WNewsNetwork serves the purpose of providing the Service required by the User, in addition to any other purposes described in the present document and in the Cookie Policy, if available.

Users are responsible for any third-party Personal Data obtained, published or shared through WNewsNetwork and confirm that they have the third party’s consent to provide the Data to the Owner.

 

1.3: Mode and place of processing the Data

Methods of processing

The Owner takes appropriate security measures to prevent unauthorized access, disclosure, modification, or unauthorized destruction of the Data.
The Data processing is carried out using computers and/or IT enabled tools, following organizational procedures and modes strictly related to the purposes indicated. In addition to the Owner, in some cases, the Data may be accessible to certain types of persons in charge, involved with the operation of WNewsNetwork (administration, sales, marketing, legal, system administration) or external parties (such as third-party technical service providers, mail carriers, hosting providers, IT companies, communications agencies) appointed, if necessary, as Data Processors by the Owner. The updated list of these parties may be requested from the Owner at any time.

Legal basis of processing

The Owner may process Personal Data relating to Users if one of the following applies:

  • Users have given their consent for one or more specific purposes. Note: Under some legislations the Owner may be allowed to process Personal Data until the User objects to such processing (“opt-out”), without having to rely on consent or any other of the following legal bases. This, however, does not apply, whenever the processing of Personal Data is subject to European data protection law;
  • provision of Data is necessary for the performance of an agreement with the User and/or for any pre-contractual obligations thereof;
  • processing is necessary for compliance with a legal obligation to which the Owner is subject;
  • processing is related to a task that is carried out in the public interest or in the exercise of official authority vested in the Owner;
  • processing is necessary for the purposes of the legitimate interests pursued by the Owner or by a third party.

In any case, the Owner will gladly help to clarify the specific legal basis that applies to the processing, and in particular whether the provision of Personal Data is a statutory or contractual requirement, or a requirement necessary to enter into a contract.

Place

The Data is processed at the Owner’s operating offices and in any other places where the parties involved in the processing are located.

Depending on the User’s location, data transfers may involve transferring the User’s Data to a country other than their own. To find out more about the place of processing of such transferred Data, Users can check the section containing details about the processing of Personal Data.

Users are also entitled to learn about the legal basis of Data transfers to a country outside the European Union or to any international organization governed by public international law or set up by two or more countries, such as the UN, and about the security measures taken by the Owner to safeguard their Data.

If any such transfer takes place, Users can find out more by checking the relevant sections of this document or inquire with the Owner using the information provided in the contact section.

Retention time

Personal Data shall be processed and stored for as long as required by the purpose they have been collected for.

Therefore:

  • Personal Data collected for purposes related to the performance of a contract between the Owner and the User shall be retained until such contract has been fully performed.
  • Personal Data collected for the purposes of the Owner’s legitimate interests shall be retained as long as needed to fulfill such purposes. Users may find specific information regarding the legitimate interests pursued by the Owner within the relevant sections of this document or by contacting the Owner.

The Owner may be allowed to retain Personal Data for a longer period whenever the User has given consent to such processing, as long as such consent is not withdrawn. Furthermore, the Owner may be obliged to retain Personal Data for a longer period whenever required to do so for the performance of a legal obligation or upon order of an authority.

Once the retention period expires, Personal Data shall be deleted. Therefore, the right of access, the right to erasure, the right to rectification and the right to data portability cannot be enforced after the expiration of the retention period.

If a user has published a story or media post publicly on the service; the name, story title and subtitle, Date of content publishing, the content of the story or media, URL of content and social media link shall be retentive indefinitely till the user removal of the post or request that the data controller removal of the data within three (3) days from the request.

Information regarding retention time regarding users Data from the third parties data controller(s) can be found within their policies on their application or services. Any users requesting that their data be removed from third party controller can contact that data controller for the removal of data.

The purposes of processing

The Data concerning the User is collected to allow the Owner to provide its Service, comply with its legal obligations, respond to enforcement requests, protect its rights and interests (or those of its Users or third parties), detect any malicious or fraudulent activity, as well as the following: Access to third party services’ accounts, Content commenting, Contacting the User, Analytics, Registration and authentication, Interaction with external social networks and platforms, Location-based interactions, Hosting and backend infrastructure, Displaying content from external platforms, Content performance and features testing (A/B testing), Advertising, Remarketing and behavioral targeting, Handling payments, Traffic optimization and distribution, Tag Management, Managing contacts and sending messages, Handling activity data, SPAM protection, Social features, Infrastructure monitoring, Device permissions for Personal Data access, Beta Testing, Heat mapping and session recording, Managing data collection and online surveys, Commercial affiliation and Backup saving and management.

1.4: The use of the collected Data

The Data concerning the User is collected to allow the Owner to provide its services, as well as for the following purposes: Access to third party services’ accounts, Content commenting, Contacting the User, Analytics, Registration and authentication, Interaction with external social networks and platforms, Location-based interactions, Hosting and backend infrastructure, Displaying content from external platforms, Content performance and features testing (A/B testing), Advertising, Remarketing and Behavioral Targeting, Handling payments, Traffic optimization and distribution, Managing contacts and sending messages, Handling activity data and SPAM protection.

1.5: Facebook permissions asked by this Application

This Application may ask for some Facebook permissions allowing it to perform actions with the User’s Facebook account and to retrieve information, including Personal Data, from it.

The permissions asked are the following:

Publish stories about things the user Likes to the Wall.

Share items on the user’s behalf.

Send messages to the User’s Messenger App

Text Messaging

Send SMS messages to the User’s phone.

1.6: Device permissions for Personal Data access

Depending on the User’s specific device, this Application may request certain permissions that allow it to access the User’s device Data as described below.

By default, these permissions must be granted by the User before the respective information can be accessed. Once the permission has been given, it can be revoked by the User at any time. In order to revoke these permissions, Users may refer to the device settings or contact the Owner for support at the contact details provided in the present document.

The exact procedure for controlling app permissions may be dependent on the User’s device and software.

Please note that the revoking of such permissions might impact the proper functioning of this Application.

If User grants any of the permissions listed below, the respective Personal Data may be processed (i.e accessed to, modified or removed) by this Application.

Approximate location permission (continuous)

Used for accessing the User’s approximate device location. This Application may collect, use, and share User location Data in order to provide location-based services which includes WWeatherNetwork, location for media content when uploading to our services, local stories around you and other features. 

Approximate location permission (non-continuous)

Used for accessing the User’s approximate device location. This Application may collect, use, and share User location Data in order to provide location-based services.

The geographic location of the User is determined in a manner that isn’t continuous. This means that it is impossible for this Application to derive the approximate position of the User on a continuous basis.

Camera permission

Used for accessing the camera or capturing images and video from the device. This is for our User Generation Service

Contacts permission

Used for accessing contacts and profiles on the User’s device for finding other users that may be friends on our services.

Microphone permission

Used for accessing and recording microphone audio from the User’s device for video recordings.

Social media accounts permission

Used for accessing the User’s social media account profiles, such as Facebook and Twitter for login and sharing features.

 1.7 Users’ Request Of Personal Information

General European Privacy Act

As required by the New General European Privacy Act or GDPA which come into force on May 25, 2018 with New requirements for editing of personal information and removal of content. User can request on information from the data controller on what information has about the user by sending a email to removal@wnewsnetwork.com or request through the form at WNewsNetwork.com/datarequest

The user can request that their information be removed from the company which includes any information that could ID the user. Users can edit their data in their profile sittings on WNewsNetwork which effects all of their My W-World Account across W-World Media Services.

California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA)

As requested by California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) which came into force on January 1st, 2020, California residents can ask for information that is stored about them by the data holder. The data controller is required to remove any data upon request from California Residents. For information stored on another controller, please refer to their services and policies for data removal.

Notice: Please note that requests of data or removal services are not provided to residents outside of the State of California or EU unless required by local or federal laws.

1.8 Policy on Data leaks and breaches

If a data breach happens within our services, we will disclose the information regarding the breach within three (3) days of the incident happening which includes reporting the data breach to Government officials, the local police department for investigation and a third-party service for a full investigation of our services. 

Depending on the type of data accessed, we may require our users to change our password or report information to their local banking services. The passwords is protected and hashed for your protection. 

2.0: Detailed information on the processing of Personal Data

Personal Data is collected for the following purposes and using the following services:

2.1: Access to third-party services’ accounts

This type of services allows WNewsNetwork to access Data from your account on a third party service and perform actions with it. These services are not activated automatically, but require explicit authorization by the User.

Facebook account access (WNewsNetwork)

This service allows WNewsNetwork to connect with the User’s account on the Facebook social network, provided by Facebook, Inc.

Access to the Twitter account (Twitter, Inc.)

This service allows WNewsNetwork to connect with the User’s account on the Twitter social network, provided by Twitter, Inc.

2.2: Advertising

This type of services allows User Data to be utilized for advertising communication purposes displayed in the form of banners and other advertisements on this Application, possibly based on User interests.

This does not mean that all Personal Data are used for this purpose. Information and conditions of use are shown below.

Some of the services listed below may use Cookies to identify Users or they may use the behavioral retargeting technique, i.e. displaying ads tailored to the User’s interests and behavior, including those detected outside this Application.

Facebook Audience Network (Facebook, Inc.)

Facebook Audience Network is an advertising service provided by Facebook, Inc. In order to understand Facebook’s use of Data, consult Facebook’s data policy.

WNewsNetwork may use identifiers for mobile devices (including Android Advertising ID or Advertising Identifier for iOS, respectively) and technologies similar to cookies to run the Facebook Audience Network service. One of the ways Audience Network shows ads is by using the User’s ad preferences. The User can control this in the Facebook ad settings.

Users may opt-out of certain Audience Network targeting through applicable device settings, such as the device advertising settings for mobile phones or by following the instructions in other Audience Network related sections of this privacy policy, if available.

This type of service has the purpose of providing an advertising serving infrastructure that enables WNewsNetwork to maintain its own network that serves optimized and targeted advertisements.
To this end, the services listed below may allow the Owner to track unique User visits and their navigation patterns, also with the help of Cookies or other Identifiers.
This tracking may occur across different sites or apps, in order to serve optimized and targeted advertisements.

AdButler (Sparklit Networks, Inc)
AdButler is an advertising server provision service provided by Sparklit Networks, Inc.

Google Analytics is a web analysis service provided by Google Inc. (“Google”). Google utilizes the Data collected to track and examine the use of WNewsNetwork, to prepare reports on its activities and share them with other Google services.
Google may use the Data collected to contextualize and personalize the ads of its own advertising network.

Facebook Ads conversion tracking (Facebook pixel) is an analytics service provided by Facebook, Inc. that connects data from the Facebook advertising network with actions performed on WNewsNetwork. The Facebook pixel tracks conversions that can be attributed to ads on Facebook, Instagram and Audience Network.

Google Analytics with anonymized IP (Google Inc.)

Google Analytics is a web analysis service provided by Google Inc. (“Google”). Google utilizes the Data collected to track and examine the use of WNewsNetwork, to prepare reports on its activities and share them with other Google services.
Google may use the Data collected to contextualize and personalize the ads of its own advertising network.



This integration of Google Analytics anonymizes your IP address. It works by shortening Users’ IP addresses within member states of the European Union or in other contracting states to the Agreement on the European Economic Area. Only in exceptional cases will the complete IP address be sent to a Google server and shortened within the US.

Google Analytics Demographics and Interests reports is a Google Advertising Reporting feature that makes available demographic and interests Data inside Google Analytics for WNewsNetwork (demographics means age and gender Data).

Users can opt out of Google’s use of cookies by visiting Google’s Ads Settings.

Google Analytics Advertising Reporting Features (Google LLC)

Google Analytics on WNewsNetwork has Advertising Reporting Features activated, which collects additional information from the DoubleClick cookie (web activity) and from device advertising IDs (app activity). It allows the Owner to analyze specific behavior and interests Data (traffic Data and Users’ ads interaction Data) and, if enabled, demographic Data (information about the age and gender).

Users can opt out of Google’s use of cookies by visiting Google’s Ads Settings.

App Center – Analytics is an analytics service provided by Microsoft Corporation.

AWStats is an open-source web analytics software used by WNewsNetwork to analyze Data directly without the help of third parties. AWStats allows analyzing these log files in order to examine web traffic patterns.

Cloudflare Web Analytics (Cloudflare Inc.)

Cloudflare Web Analytics is an anonymized analytics service provided by Cloudflare Inc. that gives the Owner insight into the use of WNewsNetwork by Users without needing to identify them. Further information may be found here and within the service’s privacy policy.

YouTube Analytics and Reporting API (Google LLC)

YouTube Analytics and Reporting API is a video content analytics service provided by Google LLC.

Through this Service, WNewsNetwork may collect Data directly or indirectly on or from Users’ devices, including by making use of trackers. Users may restrict such access to their Data via the security settings pageprovided by Google. Users may ask the Owner for further information about these privacy settings at any time through the contact details provided in this document.

Data collected through the Service may also be used to help third parties deliver interest-based advertising. Users can opt out of third-party interest-based advertising through their device settings or by visiting the Network Advertising Initiative opt-out page.

By filling in the contact form with their Data, the User authorizes this Application to use these details to reply to requests for information, quotes or any other kind of request as indicated by the form’s header.

Phone contact (This Application)

Users that provided their phone number might be contacted for commercial or promotional purposes related to this Application, as well as for fulfilling support requests.

Personal Data collected: phone number.

 

Mailing List or Newsletter (This Application)

By registering on the mailing list or for the newsletter, the User’s email address will be added to the contact list of those who may receive email messages containing information of commercial or promotional nature concerning this Application. Your email address might also be added to this list as a result of signing up to this Application or after making a purchase.

Personal Data collected: Cookies, country, email address, first name, last name and Usage data. 

2.5: Content commenting

Content commenting services allow Users to make and publish their comments on the contents of this Application.

Depending on the settings chosen by the Owner, Users may also leave  anonymous comments. If there is an email address among the Personal Data provided by the User, it may be used to send notifications of comments on the same content. Users are responsible for the content of their own comments.

If a content commenting service provided by third parties is installed, it may still collect web traffic data for the pages where the comment service is installed, even when Users do not use the content commenting service.

This Application has its own internal content comment system.

Facebook Comments (Facebook, Inc.)

This type of service allows WNewsNetwork and its partners to inform, optimize and serve advertising based on past use of WNewsNetwork by the User.

This activity is facilitated by tracking Usage Data and by using Trackers to collect information which is then transferred to the partners that manage the remarketing and behavioral targeting activity.

Rights for registered California Users under the age of 18

California’s “Online Eraser” law, part of California’s Business and Professions Code Sections 22580-22582, requires operators of certain websites and online services targeting minors to allow registered Users who are under the age of 18 and residents of California to request removal of content they post.

If a registered User fits that description and posted content on WNewsNetwork, they may request removal of such content by contacting the Owner or its privacy policy coordinator at the contact details provided in this document.

In response to this request, the Owner may make content posted by the registered User invisible to other registered Users and the public (rather than deleting it entirely), in which case the content may remain on the Owner’s servers. It may also be publicly available elsewhere if a third party copied and reposted this content.

Push notifications based on the User’s geographic location

WNewsNetwork may use the User’s geographic location to send push notifications for the purposes outlined in this privacy policy.

Users may in most cases opt-out of receiving push notifications by visiting their device settings, such as the notification settings for mobile phones, and then changing those settings for some or all of the apps on the particular device.

Users must be aware that disabling push notifications may negatively affect the utility of WNewsNetwork.

User identification via a universally unique identifier (UUID)
This Application may track Users by storing a so-called universally unique identifier (or short UUID) for analytics purposes or for storing Users’ preferences. This identifier is generated upon installation of this Application, it persists between Application launches and updates, but it is lost when the User deletes the Application. sessionStorage allows WNewsNetwork to store and access data right in the User’s browser. Data in sessionStorage is deleted automatically when the session ends (in other words, when the browser tab is closed).

If you are an adult, you can make a verifiable request on behalf of a minor under your parental authority.

You can submit a maximum number of 2 requests over a period of 12 months.

How and when we are expected to handle your request

We will confirm receipt of your verifiable request within 10 days and provide information about how we will process your request.

We will respond to your request within 45 days of its receipt. Should we need more time, we will explain to you the reasons why, and how much more time we need. In this regard, please note that we may take up to 90 days to fulfill your request.
