It’s an ambitious target: 2,100 new homes in Thunder Bay, Ont., in the next three years.

So, how can that goal be reached?

City officials say they’re confident it can be done, pending a chunk of change from the federal government’s Housing Accelerator Fund. Thunder Bay is one of nine municipalities in the province that have met their targets for new housing starts this year, surpassing its goal with 177 units under construction.

The other municipalities that met or exceeded their 2023 goals are:

Chatham-Kent. Innisfil. Kingston. Pickering. Sarnia. Toronto. Welland. Whitchurch-Stouffville.
