A month after introducing legislation aimed at combating online harm, B.C.’s Attorney General says three orders have been issued for the non-consensual dissemination of intimate images.
In a wide-ranging interview about the province’s new Intimate Images Protection Act, Niki Sharma said the mechanism set up to deal with complaints under the new law has already seen more than 20 applications — and is providing counselling to 17 people.
Sharma said the pain involved with the spread of unwanted sexual images limits the release of details of the outcomes, but she’s hoping word of the program’s success will encourage other victims to step forward.
