Russias denies its fighter jets struck U.S. drone over Black Sea

The Russian Defence Ministry says Russian fighter jets did not use weapons against or strike a U.S. drone that went down after an encounter over the Black Sea.

The ministry said the drone was flying near the Russian border and entered an area declared off limits by Russian authorities. It said the Russian military scrambled fighters to intercept the drone, which it claimed crashed into the water after a sharp manoeuvre.

The U.S. has said one of the warplanes struck the drone’s propeller, after which U.S. forces brought it down intentionally.
