14 Canadian women and children released from camps in northeastern Syria

The federal government confirms that four Canadian women and 10 children are en route to Canada after they were held for years in camps for ISIS suspects and their families.

Global Affairs Canada said it took “extraordinary steps to repatriate” the group that were part of a Federal Court case against the federal government.

“The safety and security of Canadians, both at home and abroad, is our utmost priority,” said Global Affairs Canada in a statement. “Amidst reports of deteriorating conditions in the camps in northeastern Syria, we have been particularly concerned about the health and well-being of Canadian children.”
