B.C. officials warn heavy rain could worsen flooding and mudslides Friday, weekend

Communities in B.C.’s southern Interior are bracing for the worst as officials warn heavy rainfall could worsen conditions that have already led to evacuation orders and highway closures throughout the region.

Environment Canada issued a special weather statement Thursday alerting residents of heavy rain starting Friday afternoon through Saturday night, which could contribute to flash floods, rising rivers and creeks, and more mudslides.

The statement is in effect for the Central Okanagan, South Okanagan, West Kootenay, Kootenay Lake and Highway 3-Paulson Summit to Kootenay Pass.

The Okanagan Indian Band has placed several properties on evacuation order in the neighbourhood of Parker Cove on Okanagan Lake, west of Vernon, where the band says
