Kevin McGuire, 44, had a two-bedroom apartment until last summer. He’s on social assistance, and between his shelter allowance and a rent supplement, he was able to cover the rent of about $1,100 a month.

“I had my own place in Spryfield, and then my landlord decided they wanted to renovict me, because they didn’t like me, so they found a way to get rid of me.”

He couldn’t find anything else he could afford, so for the first time in his life, he found himself homeless.
